About Kantha

Kantha isa hand embroidery style traditionally practiced by rural womenfolk in state ofWest Bengal. Kantha embroidery is recognized by running stitches. The usualKantha stitch is done in straight or horizontal lines but artistic Kanthastyles emerged over time where floral or religious symbols were also depictedin Kantha embroidery. Kantha is mostly practiced on pure silk, Crepe or CottonSaris. A single Kantha sari can take as many as 4-5 days of work for 5-6 womenof a house working together.
